EVN STATUS TABLE IV Version predating: 29 Apr 2008 ===================================================== Please communicate any comments to Antonis Polatidis (polatidis@jive.nl) The following is a copy of the modified Table IV containing obsolete information on recording compatibilities with the Mark 3 modes. All EVN and VLBA telescopes are equiped with Mark5 recorders and tape decks are already scrapped at most sites TABLE IV EVN RECORDING EQUIPMENT ** NOTE ** ** The EVN is currently recording with Mark5 (disks) only ** ** ** ** The VLBA correlator is also correlating with Mark5 units ** ** Thin tape recording capability is maintained in some sta- ** ** tions but this will become obsolete soon ** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |TELESCOPE| RECORD MK|NO.|TP| RECORDING MODES |NO. Two Mk5A units are now available one is connected to Cm. In special cases, changes in this arrangement could made, by prior consultation with Jb VLBI Friend. $ At Effelsberg: use the MK4 terminal for projects requiring > 8 BBCs, for MK4 modes (>256 Mb/s), for MK3 modes and for Mk5; use the VLBA terminal for experiments that require 8 or less BBCs in particular: global, VLBA correlator, VLBA modes, all requiring continuous Tsys calibration or frequency-agility. The Mk4 DATA aquisition Terminal is connected to the Mark 5A RECORDER The VLBA terminal is connected to the Mark5B recorder. @ 14 BBCs are installed at Mh. Only 8 are currently usable through all frequencies. The VLBA4 recorder is no longer available, Mark5 should be used instead. (June 2005) % 14 BBCs are available again in Sheshan25 (Shanghai) (August 07) T Can record with "thick" tape t Can record with "thin" tape - VLBA4 VLBA terminal with MK4 formatter VLBA+4 VLBA terminal with both MK4 (default) and VLBA formatters * Only a restricted number of channels can be recorded in modes A and C with < 14 BBCs. See also note on Cambridge recording below. all- All VLBA modes recorded with MK4 formatters have now been validated for inter-operability with the VLBA. However, there are still some restrictions resulting from differences between VLBA and MK4 terminals. Users should consult the document OK_modes.vlba which is available via anonymous ftp from: ftp.aoc.nrao.edu directory: pub all+ The full range of MK4 modes, including bit rates 512 Mbps, is now operational (Jan 2002). 512Mb/s not yet tested in Metsahovi (one head only) and Wetzell (c) Recommend use of "geodetic patching" modes at 13, 3.6 cm at Wz, Yb (e) 250 and 1000 kHz filter must be on external slots for MK4 terminals ===> NOT VALIDATED FOR USE WITH VLBA CORRELATOR (f) VLBA terminals have all filters for every BBC channel (yy) Planned for year 20yy
