Scheduling Software for EVN Observations

EVN Users are advised to read the Observers Instruction Sheet written and maintained by R.W. Porcas (MPIfR) before scheduling EVN observations. Schedules should be deposited via the EVN Account on VLBEER (vlbeer.ira.cnr.it) (maintained by IRA, Bologna, Italy).

Two main programs are used by EVN users to produce observing schedules for the telescopes: Sched and PC-SCHED.

    Sched
EVN observations employing VLBA/MkIV modes (i.e. most global and VSOP observations) to be correlated in Socorro or at JIVE must use the latest version of NRAO's Sched program written by Craig Walker. Huib van Langevelde is responsible for the interface between SCHED and the Field System (by means of VEX files), including all MkIV observations in the EVN.

Because of maintenance strategies, the latest version of SCHED should be obtained from the AOC NRAO ftp area.

    PC-SCHED
EVN observations employing MkIII modes must use PC-SCHED. This program was written by Alan Rogers at Haystack observatory. PC-SCHED (version 3.6) is available (in executable form, inc. documentation) for MS-DOS via:

    • JIVE ftp area
Some information can be viewed online here.

N.B. Other versions are available from the Haystack ftp area but the version in the JIVE ftp area must be used for the production of EVN schedules since, many of the set-up files e.g. codes.sch, recorders.sch have been modified (by R.W. Porcas) for EVN standard use.
