e-VLBI Call for Proposals

Proposals for science use of the EVN's developing e-VLBI real-time VLBI capability are invited. Full details are available in the e-VLBI call for proposals. See the available frequency bands and e-VLBI array in the e-VLBI status table.

Latest News:

For the latest e-VLBI news and press releases, see the EXPReS news page.

For the results from e-VLBI tests, see the EXPReS e-VLBI tests page.

News archive (pre-EXPReS):

A "slide-show" describing e-VLBI and the e-EVN project is now available (PDF format).

4th EVN-NREN Meeting

The 4th meeting of the eVLBI Proof-of-Concept (PoC) contact group was held at Exchange Avenue, Schiphol Airport on 12th October 2005.

The Minutes were prepared by Tony Foley. The agenda section has links to presentations.

Bandwidth Control Test

Network monitoring tool BWCTL ("Bandwidth Control") has been deployed around Europe to enable diagnostic measurements to be made during eVLBI experiments. A trial was staged on Friday 4th February with Onsala, Jodrell Bank, Cambridge, Torun and Medicina participating. Snapshots from the GÉANT Backbone Weathermap and BWCTL Results of the test can be viewed in Powerpoint and PDF formats. Synagon graphs, from data collected by DANTE, can be downloaded in a zip file.

3rd EVN-NREN Meeting

The 3rd meeting of the eVLBI Proof-of-Concept (PoC) contact group was held at Exchange Avenue, Schiphol Airport on 28th January 2005.

The Minutes were prepared by John Chevers of DANTE. The agenda section has links to presentations.

First e-VLBI science

The first eVLBI science observations have taken place. Read the Press Release. Also available in PDF. (4 Oct 2004)

Real-time EVN imaging

The latest real-time EVN image has been produced, this time using four telescopes including the 305-m Arecibo dish. (20 Sep 2004)

First real-time EVN image produced

The first real-time EVN image was produced yesterday from observations carried out using three EVN telescopes (Onsala, Jodrell Bank and Westerbork). Press release.

2nd EVN-NREN meeting

Minutes of the 2nd EVN-NREN meeting (Jan 28, 2004 - Amsterdam). You can also view the presentations (see below), all in PowerPoint format.

  • EVN-NREN-2-UofM.ppt (Richard Hughes-Jones)
First European eVLBI image

The first European eVLBI image was produced Friday 16 January at JIVE, from data transferred only 24 hours earlier.

Recent e-VLBI results

Steve Parsely has produced a PDF document that describes recent eVLBI results (October 2003). (Also available as a Word document).

EVN e-VLBI roadmap

An EVN roadmap (Diamond et al.) for the implementation of e-VLBI is available, in both PDF and Powerpoint formats.

Workshop on e-VLBI

The second e-VLBI workshop was held on 15-16 May at JIVE, Dwingeloo, NL. Papers presented at this and the previous meeting in Haystack are available on-line.

PoC tests

Documents specific to the PoC tests can be found here.

iGrid2002 demonstrations

Demonstrations of radio astronomy data transfer between the UK and The Netherlands at rates of 500 Mbit/s were held at iGrid2002 and European Research 2002. More information.

e-VLBI funding proposals

Some proposals relating to e-VLBI are available to EVN consortium members. These (together with the previous links) may be useful in formulating (national) proposals for last-mile telescope connections. Electronic (or paper) versions can be obtained by emailing the JIVE secretariat. The titles of the available proposals are:

  • vlbiGrid,
  • Real-Time VLBI using UKLight Connections to the Netherlands and Global Lambda Research Networks.
  • IST Proposal (April 2001, not funded).
